Washington Hospital Quality
A service of the Washington State Hospital Association

What is this?

Patients at clinics with chest pain or possible heart attack who got aspirin within 24 hours of arrival. Higher is better.

Why this matters?

Taking aspirin soon after a heart attack starts can help make the heart attack less severe by breaking up blood clots. If patients have not already taken aspirin at home, they should get it when they arrive at a medical facility. It is important that patients who might be having a heart attack are identified and treated quickly to keep their heart muscle from dying.
