"If patients needed medicine for pain during their hospital stay, the survey asked how often their pain was well controlled on a scale of never, sometimes, usually, or always. 'Well controlled' means their pain was well controlled and that the hospital staff did everything they could to help patients with their pain. The percentages below represent the percent of patients who reported that their pain was 'always' well controlled.
Pain management is important to healing and to help patients comply with treatment recommendations. A higher score may indicate that a hospital provides a higher level of patient care
